To support the growing population of network devices that directly or
indirectly control how users connect to the public Internet and the
corporate intranet, Cisco introduces Cisco Secure ACS v2.6 for Windows
2000 & NT. Cisco Secure ACS v2.6 for Windows NT (ACS2000) is a highly
scalable, high performance Access Control Server that operates as a
Windows 2000 or NT Service and controls the authentication,authorization,
and accounting of users accessing thousands of network ports.
ACS2000 supports the centralization of access control and accounting for
dial-up and broadband access servers, VPNs and firewalls, Voice-over-IP
solutions and management of access to routers and switches. Using ACS2000
, network administrators can quickly manage user accounts and globally
change levels of security and network policy for entire groups of users.
This improves their ability to deliver remote access VPN and dial-up
services to corporations investing in the expansion of their wide area
network (WAN) and networking services.
Because of its tight integration with the Windows 2000 and NT operating
systems, companies can leverage their working knowledge, and the
investment already made into building a Windows network. In addition,
the same authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) framework
can be used with TACACS+ to manage the administrative roles and groups
and control how network administrators are able to change, access, and
configure the network internally.
